SPBJ Patients Talk
… thank you for Staying Connected with your kind words!!
- Dear Dr. Albus,
My wife walked today! This may sound like a trivial statement to some, but after eight months and 19 days, it is not trivial at our household. My mind goes back to the horror of May 22, 2007! I was lying on the concrete deck of our pool trying to comfort my wife in some way as we waited for the paramedics. My wife said several times, “I will never walk again” and while my words assured her that she would, my mind had the same doubts that she expressed. After calling 911, I tried to reach my friend, Terry Piper, but got a machine at his home and no answer on his cell phone.
After rejecting two hospitals (repeatedly), I finally convinced the paramedics to take my wife to Barnes St. Peters. Since I couldn’t reach Terry for directions, I prayed for Rich Helfrey to be on call. He wasn’t; it was some other doctor named Thomas Albus, whom I had never heard of. I now realize that my real prayer for the best possible care for my wife in this situation was being answered in the person of Dr. Thomas Albus. On at least two occasions, Dr. Helfrey commented on the excellence of your work that first night and acknowledged that it made his task much easier in the ensuing weeks and months.
In short, Dr. Albus, my wife and I offer our sincere and heartfelt thanks for your being on call that evening and or being such an excellent doctor. If I can ever assist you in any way (mow your lawn, wash your car, shine your shoes or buy you a great steak dinner) I would welcome the opportunity.
Without your dedication and your excellence, I may not be able to say, “My wife walked today!”
Kindest Personal Regards,
Ben F. Blanton
Dear Dr. McAllister,
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your help and expertise in replacing my right hip. My recovery had been nothing less than miraculous due in great part to your skill and kind follow up care. I am truly grateful for your assistance and guidance in this life changing procedure.
Please feel free to use my experiences in the follow-up studies, research or in counseling other hip replacement candidates who may have questions.
I ‘all see you are the end of April for another follow-up.
Sincerely,
Paul

-Very caring treatment! Dr. Larkin/Linda were wonderful.
-Dr. Spezia was wonderful; everything was great. I felt so comfortable, and he made my son feel real relaxed.
-I broke my left ankle in numerous places on the evening of November 6, 2007. The paramedics took me to the E.R. of St. Joseph's West (who incidentally were phenomenal). The morning of November 7, I was introduced to my Surgeon Dr. Theodore Rummel of St. Peters Bone and Joint. From the moment he entered my room in the hospital Dr. Rummel was warm, receptive and answered all my questions and concerns with so much compassion. It's nerve wrecking not knowing whats to be expected, but not once were my questions downplayed and dismissed. Dr. Rummel is humorous during those nervous times and his bedside manner is impeccable.
Once discharged from the hospital I had to call the office for prescription refills, disability forms to be completed and due to rules and regulations from my work I had to request that letters be faxed to my work in order for me to work from home. I spoke to Mary at the St. Peters office who ALWAYS without question handled anything I threw at her. Krista, Dr. Rummel's assistant always returned my calls and gave me a heads up if my Dr changed my medication. Marie, Dr. Rummel's Physician Assistant was fantastic on the times that I've seen her at the Wentzville office. The ladies at the Wentzville office were always cheerful and my husband who visited the St. Peters office claimed that the office staff there were friendly, warm and professional.
I can honestly say that my relationship with SPBJ has been nothing short of amazing, and with my recovery only at the early stages I'm looking forward to my developing relationship with them.
I would not hesitate to recommend SPBJ to anyone who needed orthapedic care.
Thank you to all of you.
