Pain Management
The doctors at St. Peters Bone & Joint Surgery are experts at epidural procedures for chronic neck and back pain. An epidural is an injection of medication near the painful area of the spine. Your condition may require a series of cervical or lumbar epidural injections to ease your neck or back pain and inflammation.
Another technique that can be performed for the relief of chronic back pain is to implant a small wire called a spinal cord stimulator under the skin. The wire is connected to a power source that transmits low-level electrical impulses to the spinal cord or to specific nerves to block pain signals from reaching the brain. Instead of pain, you feel a mild tingling sensation.
For your convenience, both of these short outpatient procedures are performed on the St. Peters campus at our pain management center.

Reducing Health Risk Factors for Surgery
As your orthopaedic providers, we care about your health and well being. In providing any treatment for your orthopaedic condition, we must consider any and all risk factors that would seriously affect the outcome of any orthopaedic procedure. Our physicians here at St. Peters Bone & Joint Surgery will discuss all of your risk factors with you and the treatment options available. Excess weight or being extremely under weight can be considered risk factors for a surgery.
Carrying excess weight or being extremely under weight can present many health risks and make it difficult for our bodies to perform simple daily tasks. When additional stresses are added to the body, such as surgery or other treatment options, these risk factors increase. Statistics indicate that patients considering surgery should be in the best possible physical condition prior to surgery to ensure positive outcomes. With this said, we understand that often certain medical conditions limit a patient’s ability to be in optimal physical condition. It is difficult to take action and make changes when you’re not feeling well. Even so, high risk factors, such as excess weight, can be life-threatening when undergoing surgery or other treatment options. We must take this seriously. Our physicians and physician assistants will help you determine the optimal weight range necessary to achieve the best results with your treatment choice.
We understand that weight loss is a difficult and daunting task. That’s why it’s wise to enlist help, and we can refer you to community professionals and organizations that have a proven track record of helping people reach their weight loss goals. We are here to help you. Remember, we want your treatment choice(s) to be successful!
